Join photographer John Clarke as he discusses work created during his residency.John has taught with IS183 for years. He works with many media — oil paints, pastels, and pencil were his main tools for many years. He has become an accomplished iPhone photographer and teacher. Painting with light, his work can be mistakenly viewed as pastel or charcoal drawings.
On Sept. 13, 2018, artist Bill Wright will share work created at his recent Red Lion Inn residency as well as other ongoing projects. A photographer born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the country.
IS183 Art School of the Berkshires invites the community to its 2018 Citizens’ Hall residency opening reception Saturday, March 24 featuring works by resident artists Wit McKay and Philip Howie. McKay is an artist and freelance commercial photographer. Howie a figurative sculptor and artist.
Participating Artists: Adam Gudeon, Tony Conner, Wit McKay, Yura Adams, Paula Shalan, Philip Howie, and Lucie Castaldo. Throughout the summer, seven artists visited Naumkeag’s famous gardens to create work that was inspired by the beautiful environment.
Atwood’s work investigates how we perceive the world beyond our immediate reality, while Balken’s artistic output is a study of persona, self and consciousness, and how spiritual emergence of the self unfolds over time. Their collaborative installation explores these themes.
Join artists from the IS183's Berkshire Residency Exchange Program at the Whitney Center for the Arts. Native to Kashmir, Barbados, and South Africa, the three artists showcase their artwork from the residency and answer questions about their experience in the Berkshires this summer.
IS183 hosts three contemporary visual artists as part of their Berkshire Residency Exchange. Noor Al Suwaidi, Bembol dela Cruz, and Dina Noto are being provided with temporary “pop-up” studio space in downtown Pittsfield. During their residency, the artists are working on their own creative projects while absorbing local culture and interacting with the community at receptions, art talks and other events.
Mixed-media and installation artists Anne Roecklein and Derek Parker will create a collaborative installation, electro-synthetic, at IS183 Art School of the Berkshires. Electro-synthetic will explore the harmony and discord that arise in symbiotic (and parasitic) relationships, where it is difficult to know where one organism, process, or idea begins, and the other ends.
