Using maps and the idea of mapping for meaning, participants will learn the "collage cartography" technique as they make collage compositions using the cut-out of a hand or a head as the focal point. Layers and additional images are added intuitively as a way of "mapping" out their collage ideas. This workshop will include a welcome and intro to World Collage Day 2024 where Karen will lead a short centering meditation. The workshop will have an inviting open studio feel with social interactions encouraged.

Berkshire Art Center is excited to offer tiered pricing for our virtual World Collage Day workshops in effort to increase access for all and ensure everyone can participate in the celebration of collage! Throughout the day, virtual workshops and events will be available at three ticket prices, with a limited number of sponsored spaces available to those who need them. Please pay what you can when registering to ensure that this pricing model sustainably supports all interested participants as well as our wonderful Berkshire Art Center faculty artists. Berkshire Art Center values making art accessible to all and supporting the artists who share their skills. Please thoughtfully consider your current income level (no proof required), the value of this class to you, and your ability to support a fair price for fellow community members in need.

CLASS MATERIALS

Participants will need maps, magazines, decorative papers, collage scraps, old pages, glue stick, scissors, 9 x 12 substrate paper, & colorful paper for this workshop.
