Brothership Building Gallery Window Exhibition, February 2023

  • 141 North Street Pittsfield, MA, 01201 United States (map)

The Brothership Building Window curated by Berkshire Art Center (formerly IS183 Art School of the Berkshires) will feature Ceramics by Hunter Cady for the month of February.

Artist Statement: Deliberate, thoughtful decisions, build the forms I create. I am drawn to clay and the way it reflects who I am. My practice is informed by this alignment. The size of my work is a result of how I interact with and challenge the material. Through experimentation - whether with a new technique or through in depth surface research - new ways of thinking open up and contribute to the evolution of my work. I manipulate symmetrical forms but keep the history and information from the potter’s wheel. My forms have rims that bounce and meander; pulsating walls create new silhouettes as one walks around the pieces.

Artist Bio: Hunter Cady grew up in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. As the eldest son of Kathy Cady, a ceramic artist and teacher, Hunter drew upon his mother’s skill and passion and clay became an inseparable part of his life. His current work explores soda fired surfaces which inform the vessels he makes. He received his Bachelors in Fine Arts from Alfred University in 2020. While at Alfred, he was awarded the Marcianne Maple Miller Fellowship to attend a summer workshop at Haystack in 2019. During his senior year he was honored with the Val Cushing Award. He is currently living and working in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts.
