First Fridays Artswalk, December 2021

  • 141 North Street Pittsfield, MA, 01201 United States (map)

The Brothership Building Window curated by IS183 Art School of the Berkshires will feature Proof That I Am by lowercase d studio for the month of November.

ARTIST BIO: Sam de Soto (lowercase d studios, they/he) is an artist, musician, and teacher from Long Island, NY. They recently moved to Williamstown from Boston for their position as Music Director at The Buxton School. After a voice performance degree and a budding opera career, Sam turned to visual art in 2019 as a new form of self-expression. Largely influenced by abstract expressionism, street art, and modern design, Sam’s work ranges from large spray-painted canvases to digital photo manipulations. This is their first gallery showing.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Most of the time, I’m not really sure who I am. Creating something is often the most reliable source to prove to my future self that I had thoughts and perspectives that were notable enough to remember. The interaction of colors and forms is a truly grounding process for me - and the result of how they align feels like an official signature of my then state of mind. I can’t always make sense of everything, but rarely does everything in front of you make sense. Here is my proof to me, now to you, that I am.
