The Brothership Building Window curated by IS183 Art School of the Berkshires will feature Darrow School Student Art Show by Students from Darrow School for the month of April.

The Darrow School of New Lebanon, NY is excited to showcase their student artwork through IS183 Art School at the Brothershop Window Gallery in Pittsfield, MA. The exhibit features artwork created by students in various media. On display are works in drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, and mixed media. The exhibit will run through the month of April 2022.

The Visual Arts Department at The Darrow School is designed around a central theme of process through exploration of materials and techniques. Foundational skills are rooted in the Elements and Principles of Art and Design, giving students a solid base of knowledge and skillset to expand further through assignments and projects. Research and evaluation of historical and contemporary artists build and connect students’ own work to larger concepts. Through a variety of teaching practices, including writing and research, students develop critical analytical skills.

Our goals are to help students become critical and creative thinkers and problem solvers, to expose them to creative outlets of personal expression, and to display the value of observing something (or even someone) from multiple perspectives. With an emphasis on project-based learning, we incorporate the Shaker values of innovation and craftsmanship.

Based on class sizes and student diversity, our assignments are individualized to accommodate learning styles. Students’ past exposure to the Arts is taken into account, too. Students have the opportunity to share their experiences, voice their opinions, and personalize the classroom atmosphere. The classroom structure is flexible to accommodate student needs in order to optimize the learning experience. Students are encouraged to utilize the studio outside of class during their free blocks or during evening and weekend studio Open Hours.
