Karen Arp-Sandel, Visual Artist and inspirational art educator, is known throughout the Berkshires for her fresh, playful approach to mixed media creativity. As a lifelong educator, with professional training in graphic design, mixed media, books arts and Yoga, Karen ignites the creative process in her adult classes and workshops. She focuses on integrated art practices including collage, assemblage, artist books, watercolors. and yoga. Her artwork can be viewed in international projects, local galleries, in private collections.As an artist activist, she is the Founder of FeMail, a free post card art collaboration with a worldwide network of mail artists. Drawing upon certifications in education, meditation and Yoga, she is the Director and Founder of the Vibrant Visionary Collage Community. This is also an international network, which brings women collage artists together, to focus on the connection of art and yoga.
In recent years Karen has expanded her art and yoga mission to include working as a humanitarian travel artist and Yoga teacher in Jamaica ( The Peace Flag Seva Project) and India (Art at Ramana’s Garden Children’s Home). She was co-leader for "Paint in Italy,” a summer plein air painters workshop in Umbria. Her current collage and assemblage artwork is inspired by personal explorations of cross-cultural spirituality, folk art and public art.
She is energized by artistic collaboration and activism that generates positive action in the world. Her world view connects the dots between working with kids at risk as a volunteer art teacher in India with utilizing the skills and curriculum she implemented for local kids the IS183 Learning Through Arts Program. Karen encourages everyone to make art part of daily living and to believe in the value of artistic expression. Her passion is to illuminate the transformational power of living a creative life.
