Combining form and function, this class is designed for those who love to paint, draw, sketch and journal. Come learn the art of encaustic painting and book making in this two part class! In the first part of this class, students will create two encaustic panel book covers using collage techniques of working in wax. We will cover techniques of application, as well as address the do’s and don’ts of the medium. In the second part of the class, we will prepare papers/pages to bind into the covers with a traditional Coptic Stitch, a method of binding using a single thread to attach the covers to the pages. Students will develop skills for creating a multiple signature book, using end papers, cover boards, decorative signature paper sections and exposed, knotted spine stitching.  Using skills of dexterity, stitching, organizing and just a little math, each student will make a wonderfully creative, keepsake sketchbook, in addition to a one of a kind functional piece of art!
