Multi-Day Intensive! Modeling the Self-Portrait in Clay

The human head is a fascinating subject to explore. Join us on the estate of the sculptor Daniel Chester French to study the human figure in a uniquely hands-on opportunity. This workshop is designed to give you a better understanding of how to construct the head in the third dimension and to investigate some of the issues surrounding the self portrait bust in sculpture. We will create a life-size portrait bust in clay, focusing on accurate observation and transferring that information as realistically as possible to your sculpture. The majority of each meeting will consist of intense observation and modeling working primarily from your reflected image in the mirror, as well as from photos documenting the head from all sides. This experience will increase your eye/hand coordination and help you to gain an understanding of the head as a subject for the artist.
