Encaustic Book: Form and Function

Learn the art of encaustic painting, combined with making a handmade book! First you will create two encaustic panel book covers using wax and collage techniques. We will present application techniques, as well as address dos and don’ts of working with a wax medium. We will then prepare papers/pages to bind into the covers with a traditional Coptic Stitch, a method of binding using a single thread to attach the covers to the pages. You will develop skills for creating a multiple signature book, using end papers, cover boards, decorative signature paper sections and exposed, knotted spine stitching as you make a wonderfully creative, keepsake sketchbook plus a one-of-a-kind functional piece of art!
