In this class, suitable for new or experienced soda firing enthusiasts, we will explore the fascinating history of salt glazes and use various clays, slips and glazes that are suited for the soda kiln. Soda is a substitute for salt and when introduced into the kiln at the peak of the firing reacts with the silica in the clay to produce unending glaze variations. We will spend three weeks making and glazing ware and will help load the kiln at our last session. The firing will be scheduled around the last meeting, and students will be encouraged to attend. Includes access to open studio time for duration of class.
